The toe box is narrow. Great boot if you have narrow ish feet. I got a half size up and wide, they work but are still to narrow in the toe to call ideal.
Finally started knocking the corners off. Took a bit of courage to get at it. Just been using a super course wrasp and 80&120 grit sandpaper. Still super rough but it’s taking shape.
That’s a cool build! I am currently building a Sears model 53. The stock build is in the diy page. Good luck with the sale, but you really should just hunt that thing.
Added the butt pad to get an idea of what I need to shape off. Also put in two recoil cross bolts that I fashioned out of some door Hw parts from work. Used a plug cutter to make ebony plugs and glued em in. Everything fit nice and tight.
I get that it’s a lot of labor. My gripe is…why continue use a gasket that’s going to fail in a place that is going to require disassembly of the whole GD truck? Pretty sure I could have had an entire new transmission installed for less money
You mind if I ask what you charge for the job? This is the most unsatisfactory money I’ve ever spent. $4700 to replace some gaskets that never should fail in the first place.
I you notice oil leaking off the front of your oil pan, it’s probably coming from the timing case cover. Apparently they fail all the time. Mines a 17’ and only has 78k miles. The bill to fix it is astronomical so pre lube your butthole.
Luckily I made a pretty dang flat cut from the get go with the band saw. Then cleaned it up with a sharp chisel. From there some 200 grit sand paper on a flat block. Kept sanding it flat till the gaps were all gone. Any micro gaps that might have existed were squeezed out while clamping. Whole...
