I am new to backpacking and elk hunting. Doing one next year and haven't seen much Intel around here on:

-Comfortable pillow to pack in?

Alternative to the kifaru ultralight Pullout bags? Basically a cheaper brand.

I've been using the sea to summit pillow this year and I love it. Weighs nothing and packs into my palm size. Slide ziplock freezer bags are fairly good pullouts... other than that maybe some roll top bags might be a little cheaper. The Kifaru ones are BA though.

I used my first lite puffy stuffed in the stuff sack as a pillow this year for a pillow and it worked great. As far a pullouts, VIAM outdoors makes some for less that Kifaru but I have never used them so cant comment on quality.

I use eagle creek travel bags for pullouts. I can buy a three pack at rei and they are three different sizes. They come in different colors, which is pretty handy for organizing. They are rectangular as well and fit better in my pack.

For a pillow I picked up a NEMO brand pillow. It's a blow up pillow, but it has memory foam built into it. It also compresses to the size of a softball.

I stuff my puffy in a game bag for a pillow.

Cheap little dry bags from Walmart or academy would be a good option for pullouts. My advice would be to get bright colors. One year a buddy left a pullout with his wallet, keys and other essentials at the very top of an aweful mountain. He realized it at the end of a long hunt when we were all exhausted and had to hike back up before we could go home. Might have saved us a several hour long hike if he had a color other than camo.

Bought 2 Klymit Static V pillows on camo fire, 2nd season using them and really like them with our Big Agnes bags, just don't inflate them super full

Clear zip locks are the cheapest pullouts, I use some I bought at Walmart but the Kifaru ones are super nice!! I have a couple that came with stuff like the kill kits I bought on here etc

Kifaru pullout are worth every penny. Nothing better in my opinion. Ive never used a pillow. Its always been whatever Outer layer I can wod up in a bag. I actually used a Kifaru pullout that had all my layers in it as a pillow on my last hunt. Worked great.

Clear zip locks or small TAG bags for pull outs but I seem to add a few of those pullouts to every kifaru order. TAG bag and a puffy is a nice pillow.

I use one of these. Im going to have some soft gear in a stuff sack anyway, might as well have a fleece lined bag for a bit more comfort.

Access Denied

I have an old neck injury, so I need a pillow. That's the reason I have a Rubbermade tub filled with camping pillows, it's been a lot of 'research'. I found the best solution; an Exped UL L Air Pillow (2 oz.) inside a Goosefeet Gear Down Pillow ( 2.2oz.). Compresses so small I just stuff it in the compression sack with my sleeping bag.

I also use the granite gear zip ditty set. I like the bright colors so I don't forget them in the field. I also like that each bag is a different color so I can know what's inside by the color of the bag (first aid kit, kill kit, etc.)

For a pillow my Kryptek Aquillo puffy actually makes a great pillow stuffed inside its own pocket. One side is even fleece lined.

Sea to summit inflatable with the fleece on one side. I will also use my down jacket in a 10L bag. I will use my inflatable butt pad to get my head propped up better. I also have the klymit inertia with the built in pillow.

amazon has some travel organization bags for pretty cheap. it was like 20 bucks for a set. i did order the kifaru pullouts the other day but these cheap ones did alright. they are a drawstring style though, but weigh nothing. ill switch those over to my international travel bag.

as far as the pillow the klimit looks good. keep to what people are recommending on here, one i ordered a few years back is a bit heavier and is like the size of a softball when "collapsed" and is just too big. these nicer ones are like the size of a small pill bottle.

VERY good point ! I once left my day pack on a stump (a large stump) to put the sneak on a moose, "she" turned out to not be what I was looking for and when I backtracked the 3/8 of a mile or so in that clear cut it took me nearly 20 minutes to find it (and it had orange on it!) That's why I don't like camo colored guns

I love stone glacier pullout type bags. One is called swing out pocket ($12) and the other is called Camp pocket ($16) They are simply awesome!
