Anyone ever put the gun bearer on the back of their pack when covering ground when you don't need to have the gun ready.

Yes I have and it works well. Another way that works well is to mount the gunbearer as far back on the belt as possible then fasten the gun to the pack with a side compression strap.

This is my homemade gun-bearer on the back of a nomad centered on the frame. Have also ran it on the side of the bag on a T2 and side of emr 2. Usually I use the solo hunter rifle cover just to protect my rifle and keep debris off. You have to take the pack off to get the rifle though, to undo the qr buckles.
